A lady I know gave me this picture of her hsuband on a motorbike coming out of a cloud of smoke and dust, which she wants me to print up large for her but doesn't like the large white section so much. I have had a play with it but am not sure how to bring a bit of colour into the white. I know that there is no detail to bring back into it so anything done will have to be added.

Could you guys have a play with it and show me what you would do. A quick rundown of what you did would be helpful as well. Thanks

I know very little about PS, but played with it and that white is pretty darn solid, even with dodging and black andwhite conversion, sepia, channel colours, I was able to get a little more detail and two other heads and some strange pixal things in the left hand corner

Maybe someone with more PS know how will be able to help. But that solid white wall is a block for me.

Can you post the original file?

What is the best way to post original file?

Upload the the original to your portfolio and then put a hyperlink to the photo in this forum. Do you have a raw or only jpeg?

Well, there's the obvious; You could crop the picture and make it a little tighter around her husband. Then maybe play around with enhancing the riders and trees in the background. Otherwise, I really don't know what you could just 'add' to it... But the cropping would get rid of some of the white at least.

I was hoping to make the white not so white. The cropping will happen but will depend on the size she wants printed. I have actually moved the others riders closer to the main rider for the sake of interest. Maybe some sort of vignette effect could work???

Does she have any other similar photos of her husband? I'd probably try to do something along the lines of a collage if possible - just a thought.

well if you turn down the brightness and contrast it looks to be a holeshot photo if she has any other ones that you could edit him into from that day, id say that would be your best bet

Maybe too much, but you can see what can be done.

Personally I don't mind the white. I'd probably just blur the background a bit to really frame him.

I think anything you do to try and create texture in the white will just look fake.

Ditto on the stark, minimalist processing.

Thanks so much you guys. I really like your SDW, very artistic. Will see what my friend wants to go with.

did you shoot that in raw? If so, you have a chance of rescue. In fact, if you have Lightroom you could salvage a lot from that I think. I don't mind the minimalist look but the magenta outlines really bug me about it.
