Can anyone help? My external hard drive is read only on my Mac. I have no idea how to change this? Do I need specific drivers? I used to use it on a PC, but now only want to use it on the Mac.
Please help!

How is the external disk formatted? FAT32, NTFS?
Also, what Mac do you have? PowerPC, Intel?
To get the best performance you will wnat to format using one of the Apple formats. The format you choose depends largely on which processor you have in your Mac.

| Almost all Macs can read and write to FAT32 disks, but I think only the newer ones can even read an NTFS disk. You may have to back up all the data and reformat it to use it fully with your Mac. |

| Your external drive is probably locked. - right click on the external drive icon if you have a two button mouse or command click if only one button. a menu should appear (open, get info, duplicate, etc). Click "get info" and uncheck the locked items under ownership and permissions (that is if you have the authority to do it on your computer - if not, see your tech guy) - |

| You might also want to use Disk Utility (under Applications) to reformat the drive for MAC unless you intend to switch between PC and MAC. Of course it will wipe everything off the drive in doing so. |
