I've had a look and dont know but maybe you could help by letting DPC'ers know where the shot was taken etc.

lol... It was flying around at the zoo. I'm not sure if it's local or not. If it's local, I'm in New Orleans, LA.

Was it very big? It reminds me of the magpies from the Windex Commercial. :-)

The angle on the head might make it tough to know for sure, but there is something called a pied crow. Google Magpies too though. They look pretty similar.

Pied Crow

I've gotten help from professors in the Biology Dept at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. You might be able to get some help from someone at LSU if you are really curious. I am even curiuos now to know if they do exist in the wild here in Louisiana. :-)

Huh, I might try the LSU thing. It does look quite similar to the pied crow, the white collar seems to match fairly closely... Thanks all for the help!

If you happen to go back to the zoo, show the photo to someone there who may know more about it. Meanwhile, it is a fun thing for the bored crowd at DPC tonight to have a go at.

European magpies (I think) do not behave the same way as Pied Crows. (or question mark). The first collect shiny objects, the second, well, I don't know, maybe the sell 'em?
