Greetings all!
I'm thinking of upgrading from my Panasonic Lumix FZ-8 to something a little better. I have had quite an enjoyable experience with this camera, but I'm about to start selling prints, and want to be able to print larger photographs.
The main reason I'm upgrading is because the out of focus portions of the photo come out pixelated when blown up much past an 8X10. I love to utilize out of focus portions of the photograph, and I want to be able to print them fairly large.
I don't want to empty my savings account (especially after splurging on this lovely Macbook I'm on) but I'm willing to pay around $500-$600 for something that will stay with me. I also would like one that I could buy new lenses for as I gain more experience and continue to search for new shots.
Recap:
1)I'm looking for a camera that captures details not only in the focused parts, but the out of focus.
2)Something that won't send me into bankruptcy.
Suggestions, my heros? |

Hmmmm....I don't know anything about your current camera. Can you show us the problem you're seeing? Is the pixelation problem from noise, perhaps? P&S cameras are notorious for noise problems. If it's noise, you might be able to fix it with something like Neat Image or Noise Ninja, instead of buying a new camera.
Anyway, if you're wanting to print large prints, you might consider an entry level DSLR. Probably used, given your price range. Both the lenses and the sensors are much better, and the images they produce can stand being blown up larger.

I would say it is noise, like this image here: 
The out of focus looks pretty good at this size, but when blown up it gets pretty bad noise/pixelation. I have heard of Noise Ninja, but have not used it as of yet. |

| I've heard great things about the Rebel Xti, but I'm curious if it captures the out of focus better, or no? |

It's not about the Rebel, it's about the lens you put on. I you are on a budget, try one of the less expensive primes. The 50/1.8 (about $100) will do well, any macro-prime (starting at $300ish) will do even better and allow you to shoot macro pictures.
