First off, I just wanted to share the wonderful sunset that we had here in central CA this last evening! It was just a little windy but the clouds, and sun just turned out beautifully.

These following photos are straight out of the camera (no color enhancing what-so-ever)!

Next; I was shooting some shots of the moon with my new 70-200 lens. I kept noticing there seemed to be a 'white' ring, almost as if over sharpening, around the moon.

#2. I realize that I needed to stop down the lens to help this one.


ok...

#3. My question is this. Why does the white ring show up so much brighter in this photo? I'm not sure I completely understand.

It might just be an artifact of the unsharp mask. I can see a hint of it on some of my portfolio moon shots, but nothing on my unprocessed:
