I am wondering, with the advent of the internet, if free lance for local news is still paying off. My friend told me that my local paper had paid his wife for a photo several years back and I thought it might be a easy way to make extra cash since I am already zipping around town shooting pics of everything. |

You might be interested in the YouWitness program of Reuters News Service.
I just found out about it yesterday, so I don't have any direct experience, but they say they will pay you something if your photo gets used. |

depends where you live.
in the chicago area I have to sorta battle for free lance assignments, and even the Chicago Tribune doesn't pay very much.
Also depends on your portfolios, the editors you know, etc.
But as an easy way to make extra cash, not really, considering assignments can be tough to get, and the pay is little.
And please don't give away your photos. That'll just undercut everyone who tries to feed themselves from it.
But good luck maybe you can get in somewhere and get some assignments. |

I had a number of shots published there in their
"This week's best pics" - Week of 1/23/07:
I wasn't paid for them, but to have my collection selected Internationally as the Best of the Week was pretty cool.
