What exactly does that macro setting on my camera do (except allow me focus at closer range than without it)? Occasionally I forget and leave it on and shoot, say, a landscape; the results are not necessarily bad. Just curious...

I am curious to know too.
Perhaps it's a focus plane limiter like what you see on other macro lenses. |

I was going to guess, but instead I searched and found this:
"...by using the macro setting on the camera. A macro setting changes the focus of the camera so it can focus on very close objects.
Does that help? My camera doesn't have one of those nifty macro modes. I have to pay extra for it. |
