Not very original, I know, but I am in the market for a camera of high quality ($500-$600) and I have been looking at the Fuji Coolpix and the Minolta A1 and Minolta 7HI...any other suggestions or help?

The Minolta A2 has just come out. I'm just getting to grips with the A1 and can highly recommend it.

Like Ecce, I have the A! and I reccommend it. If you can go for the higher price tag (about899 - 999 USD), the reviews I have read of the A2 say it has better image quality.

| The Canon Powershot G5 gives you a lot for the money at the low end of your price range. I picked up one as a second camera for $466 at DBuys.com. Though there are newer cameras out now (Minolta A1?), it's worth noting that the Powershot G2, G3 and G5 are the 3rd, 9th and 27th most popular cameras on this site, respectively. That roughly corresponds to the length of time these cameras have been on the market. |

This is going to sound self serving but I would recomend the 717... I did lots of research and it was the only camera for me... I just recently upgraded to the 10D due to some high speed requirements, but I have recomended the 717 to several friends. Unfortunetly they all bought there's new by the time I decided to sell mine.
Mines a few months old now and i'll part with it for 530 to someone in Noth America. I've also got accessories for it, PM me if interested :)
