Some of what gives the difference in vote quantities is when you start voting you can choose which thumbnail to click on, and after that you get them randomly. That will certainly give the images with interesting looking thumbnails some edge on votes.

Relax...it's all good. :-D

I'm relaxed. My score is fine. Several comments on my images are much appreciated. I was responding to a person who was receiving 40% fewer votes and zero comments. He was wondering, "Why?" I was suggesting that some people skip over voting on some images. Is that illegal? No! Is it ethical? No! Does the SC close their eyes to this travesty of justice? I don't know and I won't answer for them.

Fascinating that having people view our photos but not vote on them is considered a "travesty of justice". I consider it an honor that anyone spend a little of their time viewing something I've created. I tend to vote with the random image call up. After I get to the 20% minimum using the random sampling, I'll scan through and look for thumbs which catch my eye and vote on a few of those. This seems neither a "travesty of justice" nor unethical in any form whatsoever. It is like when I walk into a huge art gallery or art museum. I'll stop to look at a percentage of pieces that catch my eye, skip a majority of pieces due to the size of the collection, and only purchase a few postcards of the pieces that most moved me (my ribbon favorites!).

It seems that there are a lot higher scores (some 7's) in this challenge.

I guess it's a good thing I didn't post my real score. I wonder if it's higher or lower...

Wow, ok, well....there's a different slant on things and a different perspective. I understand where you're coming from in saying that and why, under those particular circumstances.

However, as I understand it, the DPC voting system is set up so that random shots will appear for everyone when voting according to the way that the site has set up. ie: Starting on the first image shown on the page and voting according to what shows up on your screen next. It's also my understanding that everyone will have their pages set up differently so that different photos appear first, thereby, giving everyone's shots almost equal availability in the voting system, IF it is followed according to their method. That kind of comes close to ensuring that everyone's shots will likely get an "equal viewing possibility".

When one is to "skip the system" by randomly picking which images are "eye catching" to a voter, then not all photos are receiving equal viewing and thereby, equal voting chances.

Say for instance, I have a lovely Icelandic scenery shot (*smile, wink*) with loads of color and you have a black and white of a still life. The chances may be, in the type of a "hand picked" voting system that you're talking about (or "cherry picking" as someone else has termed it *smile*), mine may get more views than yours does and therefore, more votes while yours may get passed by more than mine. That then begs the question of whether your photo is truly "inferior" by comparison to mine, or whether the "thumb" simply doesn't allow the viewer to see its fullest qualities? Perhaps, had the voters actually viewed yours, they may have found that yours had far more merit to my initial eye catching color?

Anyway, just my thoughts on that type of thing....nothing more. :)

Lost the six for awhile but thankfully found it again. Commenters mostly reacted to what I was trying to emphasize, so I'm happy.
