Because of the continuous threads on why, or why not people don't contribute more comments or critiques to individual photos, here is my $.02 (American) worth of an idea.
Have a thread that the general membership can not have access to.
As a learning tool for the general membership, let the Admin. and SC select the best of the best, cream of the crop comments, and critiques per challenge and post them on a special thread for the general membership to view.
There are no ribbons for the best comments.
There are no standards but the opinions of the SC and the Admin. as to what comments and critiques are thought provoking, and educational.
Commenter's and critiquer's both that have something useful to say, that will further the advancement of artists, photographers, and imagists abilities only should make the cut on the thread.
This is a closed, goal orientated thread for educational purposes only for the general membership.
Since SC uses a voting, or quorum anyway on issues, this will just be one more item for them to use when posting to this educationally focused thread.
I have read constantly how important this site is because of the learning curve given, and achieved by members and the site it self. If that is true, then this would be a great way for the site to give further direction to both newbies and pros alike.
It would also help reduce complaints about comments.
This would take DPC to another level, leaning twords that educational standard, and getting away from just another photo challenge site.
If there are not enough SC for this task, then get more SC.
Let the nay sayers begin.......now.

In theory this would be a great thing to do. It would surely have educational value. But (you knew there was a "but") there are approximately 6000 comments made weekly. It would be nigh on impossible to really select the best of the best. A small group would have to individually review the entire pool of comments, filtering out the cream from the milk. Might be feasible for one week, but to do it every week, or even pretty regularly, would be a monumental undertaking. |

Three thoughts.
A comments or critiques that is only a few words long probably could be overlooked. Considering the detail one should include into a comment or critique, I would think would include more than "Nice Shot".
Secondly, this could be a monthly thing. Recommendations from the general membership could be installed. SC and the Admin could consider those comments and critiques from people that have been inspired, and impressed by said commenter.
and last...
Either get more SC, or create a board for this thread.

What? This is such a great idea that no one wants to stab at it?
Trying to figure out the Psychology of a vote instead of a way to fix the problem is more important?
Complaining is more important?
Come on, I have a valid idea.
Am looking for a discussion.
Any one, especially those that continually are looking for a potential problem solver for the comment and critique issue.
