Hi there,
We just had a flood, which got through to the garage and lots of my boxes. In these boxes were about 5 dispoable cameras that I was waiting to get developed. Some got really wet, and some others were mildly wet.
I don't know enough about film to know..... does wet film = destroyed film?
Thanks in advance,
:) |

Try to get the film developed before it dries. As it dries the emulsion will stick together in places and ruin the images. If the film is still wet there may be some damage (pink spots on the film) but not as much |

No, water doesn't damage film. The whole development process is very wet, the film gets thoroughly soaked in various chemicals (developer etc.) and lots of water.
Your biggest risk is any dirt that may have been in the water, scratching the film or sticking to it or allowing mould to form. Take the films to get processed as soon as possible; you may want to warn the lab in case they're worried about contamination of their chemicals (so e.g. they could do your films at the end of the day with the chemicals being replaced the next day, rather than just after they've changed them). If the photos are particularly precious, you may want to take them to a pro lab (or a trusted friend that develops their own film) where they could be washed before starting then developed manually rather than pushed through a dip-and-dunk machine - obviously you'll pay a lot more for manual handling though.
