"Global Warming" is wrong on two fundamental levels: It is not the real problem; and it's polarizing.
We need to get it through our heads that the real problem is a supply & demand problem whose domain is carbon-based fuels. Our entire planet has discovered less every year since 1988 than we have consumed. Yet demand continues to grow and is poised to grow dramatically as China and India become wealthier energy consuming nations. Gas won't be $4/gallon (€1.5/liter in Europe) but $40!
If we fail to become independant of carbon-based fuels, China and the US will fight a world war before 2050. Seeds for that war are being planted today as we watch China and India secure "rights" to oil around the world and as they move from net energy exporters to net energy importers.
Sadly, none of the current 3 US presidential hopefulls is making energy independance a national priority.
Sadly, liberals are prepared to punitatively tax oil profits that could be used to fund energy-independance research.
Sadly, no government on earth has taken alternative energy research seriously enough to make it national priority, except possibly Iceland, which while beautiful is too small to matter in the grand scheme of things.
Just my opinion, but I've given this a lot of thought and I've looked hard at the science and the economics. By 2050 I'll be dead, but we should all be very afraid for our children who will live in that world and be impacted by that war. |
