Free Rice

Edit: I did no research to verify the claims made on this website. I leave that to those younger, more energetic, and doubting than I. :)

//freerice.com/faq.html

"There are 55 levels in all, but it is rare for people to get much above level 48."

After 1100 grains donated:
vocab level 40
highest 41

"Who pays for the donated rice?

The rice is paid for by the advertisers whose names you see on the bottom of your vocabulary screen. This is regular advertising for these companies, but it is also something more. Through their advertising at FreeRice, these companies support both learning (free vocabulary for everyone) and reducing hunger (free rice for the hungry). We commend these companies for their participation at FreeRice.

If FreeRice has the rice to give, why not give it all away right now?

FreeRice is not sitting on a pile of rice―you are earning it 20 grains at a time. Here is how it works. When you play the game, advertisements appear on the bottom of your screen. The money generated by these advertisements is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice donated to hungry people."

They link to the chart over here that deserves discussion.

Cool site.

45/47.

Is that good? I have no idea how it works. But it seems like a lovely idea.

50's my best so far. Did you see that you can set options? I've set to keep a running total of grains so that I can see how much good my timewasting does, because I have a feeling I'll be visiting there often :)

Hmmm... now I see there have been two other threads about this site. How did I miss them?? Anyway, just popped back to mention that, after having played this today and telling Becky about it, it seemed rather funny to be watching the local news tonight and seeing a story on freerice.com :)

And for those of you on facebook; freerice app :)

That version isn't as fun. It's slower and it doesn't give me the vocab level evaluation.

Yesterday I got up to 50 for a very short time, though mostly I bounce between 46 and 48.
And in case anyone is wondering, I checked it out on Snopes, and it's legit.
