I have noticed that older users of DPC (not all, but most) seem to casually mark most to all comments as "helpful." I know that I tend to mark most of my comments helpful without really about thinking about if it is or now. But I have also noticed that the newer users are a lot more honest when it comes to this, because if the comment really wasn't helpful, they don't mark it helpful, such as the "Nice" and "Wow" or even "Nope" comments. I know I have marked those as useful in the past without thinking about it.

I`m one of the guilty ones here as I mark everything helpful..even if it wasn`t. I look at it more as a way of saying thanks for taking the time to comment (even if I didn`t agree with what you said).
It sort of demeans the really helpful comments as you are not segregating them from the rest.
Maybe if we had another option to tick (along with the helpful), which was basically acknowledging the person`s comment, you could then get a truer idea of how many of your comments were really helpful. |

I mark pretty liberally, but don't unthinkingly mark all helpful. If the comment told be anything at all about how I might improve the photo, I mark helpful.

I appreciate most if not all comments, but try to only mark them as helpful if they're constuctive in some way. I like getting comments that say 'wow' or 'nice', but they're not really helpful. Ego boosting perhaps, but not practical.
I would suggest adding two more buttons, a thumb-up and a thumb-down, where you could then mark a comment as appreciated or not appreciated, and then tick the helpful box if applicable. The thumb up and thumb down would have to be radio buttons, so you'd have to choose between, and the helpful box would just stay as it is.

I generally mark them helpful (now anyways) just to recognize that some one took the time to comment.
