National photography festival to be held in Canberra in 2008
Canberra’s rich photographic collections will be on display from 11 July
to 6 October 2008 when the national collecting institutions and other ACT
galleries and organizations collaborate to present a national photography
festival.
Eight institutions have already confirmed their participation. The
Australian War Memorial, National Archives of Australia, National Film and
Sound Archive, National Gallery of Australia, National Library of
Australia, National Museum of Australia and National Portrait Gallery will
hold simultaneous photographic exhibitions. The Australian National
University will host an international photographic conference.
The festival also includes a diverse program of events for photographers,
photographic historians and everyone with an interest in photography.
The event builds on the success of the recent Summer of Silver program
which brought crowds of visitors to Canberra to see photographic
exhibitions at the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, National
Archives and National Library. Promotion of this event was supported by
Australian Capital Tourism Corporation.
ACT galleries and other organisations interested in participating in this
exciting event are encouraged to contact the festival organisers.
