Well done Ernie and congrats to Alain however my Eagle was right behind his Hare and almost had him for lunch! Now I need my first ever 7 score to stay on the top 5 I think. |

your welcome. I don't know what is not letting you view the results page. Did you try typing the address into another browser.

Copy and Paste in a new browser window and see if that works. |

Maybe you could rephrase the question to "Does everyone know how the iPoints work?"? :-)
I take it that this is some sort of handicap based on prior average? Calculated monthly or accumulative? |

Yup, a little clarification would help, thought I understood it but now I'm confused again - I'm guessing its the difference between your start and end average but not sure of the equation.
I like it as its the only thing keeping me at #2 lol (the next 'affected' position is #17) |

Yep. Love 'em, especially when I score 1 full point above my average. :) Ask me again next month when I flop!

IPoints explained
1. iPoints are points that each photographer earns based on the difference between their FSM average and their overall DPChallenge average (ODPCA) obtained on January 1, 2008.
2. The Free Study Marathon takes each photographer FSM average and subtracts their ODPCA, this equals the photographers FSM-Improvement score. This score could be a negative or a positive number.
3. Your FSM Improvement score is ranked from 1 to 179 (the amount of FSM participants). If you have the best FSM Improvement score then you will receive 179 iPoints.
4. Since the total iPoints any photographer can receive over the 2008 season is 179 and each month your iPoints can vary based on your FSM Improvement ranking; the iPoints are divided by the current FS giving you a fractional number each month.
5. At the end of the season the photographer with the best FSM Improvement will receive 179 iPoints, 2nd place 178, 3rd 177, all the way down to last place, which will receive 1 point. (you will see the iPoints increase each month. They will total 1-179 at the conclusion of the season).
Q. If a photographer’s FSM Improvement score is negative why does he or she receive points?
A. The FSM iPoints were setup to give a photographer with a lower overall DPC average points for having a higher FSM average over their ODPCA. At the same time there are some photographers that have a very high average and it would not be fair to award them zero points or deduct points because their FSM average fell below their ODPCA. So to keep the field level the iPoints are awarded in a rank scale. This formula allows every photographer that participates to earn iPoints.
NOTE: Remember "ODPCA" is the photographers average taken on 1/1/2008.
I hope this helps explain the iPoints system. Maybe it didn’t confuse even more people

Thanks Scott, however, in Jan I Recieved 14.33 iPoints and in Feb 16.09 (showing improvement). Now these are not culmulative as only the 16.09 is in my score. Does this mean you get the iPoints as stated above and up to 179 points at the end of the year? |

Formula works like this.
1. FSMA - ODPCA = FSM Improvement Score (FSMIS)
2. Your FSMIS is compared to all other participants and Ranked 179 down to 1.
3. Your rank is your iPoints which is divided by the current FS Challenge.
4. The current free Study challenge is listed as follows:
a. Jan - 12 g. Jul - 6
b. Feb - 11 h. Aug - 5
c. Mar - 10 i. Sep - 4
d. Apr - 9 j. Oct - 3
e. May - 8 k. Nov - 2
f. Jun - 7 l. Dec - 1
5. Your current FSMIS score is 1.0357 giving you 177 iPoints (as of this month, will change each month based on your rank).
6. 177 iPoints / 11 = 16.06 (your total iPoints through February's FSM).

From month-to-month I don't know what any photographers iPoints are going to be because there are so many variables. The variables are what is your FSM avg at the end of the March FS, how did you compare to the other 178 photographers. The formula I have constructed gives me that figure only after it knows what every participating photographers score is for the FS month. That's why it has be so hard to explain. But believe me everyone is treated equal and the points are awarded accorded to each photographers performance.
Edit: clarification

to your original question: I thinks it's a nice addition. It does not impact immensely the overall ranking - which I prefer. But it does give a small boost to lower avg scorers. So all in all a good balance.
After a few months, maybe for next year, you will have more vision on what changes are necessary. For the time being, I'd keep it as it is.

ok peeps not long till the March voting starts!
Am still undecided about my entry as just for a change I have 5 or 6 good shots to choose from. Sad boy here has been looking at the results so far and reckon a 6.4 will keep me in the top ten.
Good luck peeps and let round three commence :) |
