These pictures are taken of Pukeko's a native Bird here in NZ, all pictures where taken at a local reserve on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula.
Your thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

They look like a sort of cross between a turkey a crow/raven, and maybe even a vulture. Very cool and thanks for sharing them.

Neil the bird your refering to is the Kea, its a little bugga i tell you.
The Pukeko is also known as the "Purple Swamp Hen". The Pukeko are suicidal birds. I so often see them on the side of the road, dithering, darting backwards and forwards, looking for an opportunity to cross, only to come back later to see them squashed on the road. They seem to have no road sense at all. Heres a quote regrading the Pukeko "The Pukeko is a bold and fearless bird. It has learned that trains and motorcars are harmless and takes no notice of them."
