Here's the shot that I was originally going to enter until everyone I asked said to crop it ;)

I was hoping to get some feed back as to whether or not I made the right decision. I didn't enter this one because it was a bit soft and starting to get that oversharpening look. What do you guys think?

I really like your outtake. It's more "interesting" to look at, jumps out from the thumbnail (more views), and probably would have garnered a handful of "how'd you do that?" comments (and a validation request to boot I'll bet).

BTW - How DID you do that? :-D

The fish is actually pretty new, it replaced the last one if you know what I mean. I had him in a little plastic tank with nothing else and I placed a bright yellow fleece jacket behind him. I then Took many shots from different angles and I used my flash for the lighting. most of the dark spots in the background are from the shadows made from the jacket. they just happend to make a glowing light around him. Also he is bright yellow not this darker gold color. But this is what I came up with when I processed the image. Originally the fish and the background where the same bright yellow, and they both came out this gold color.

The thing that really made it tough, and none of the images in focus, was he was really fast and my focus couldn't keep up and he wouldn't stay still. Man I hate uncooperative models.

LOL. :-)

The fleece jacket answers my question. Couldn't figure out the background. Thanks!

my outtake:

and my entry:

the outtake had so much dust. stupid plexiglass was super static-y. i just didn't want to spend an hour cloning.

the entry had some movement. it's perhaps not as sharp as the outtake, but i preferred the Prismacolors facing down and the rotation of the top.
