Trying to get a good outdoors portrait of my daughter. Unfortunately, it was a bit windy today. Other than the hair, anyone got any feedback for me?
Here's a second shot.

I would suggest facing your daughter into or slightly into the sun to avoid getting the shadows across her face. You can also try using the wind to you advantage if she is facing into the wind. These are only some suggestions mind you and I am by no means a professional photographer. |

I would suggest using a tripod for a start and choose a large aperature and zoom in a little to blur out the background, any shadows can be eliminated using fill in flash.A closer crop may look better, then whisk it into your editor adjust it, maybe gausian blur etc and there you have it.
I am no pro but these steps will improve it to start with, experiment.

Great smile. Vertical crop may work a bit better.

This was done with a tripod and the furthest zoom that the Dimage has. :)
I'm definately not a pro with all the PS options though. I'll play with it some more.

i like PICT0172.JPG better of two , more relaxed.
It is great to shoot kids and even better when you see result ,
I love shooting my nephew, after couple of shots he is very relaxed and than is himself. In my opinion i have realized it is much better to capture kids in their natural play actions rather than make them sit and pose

I agree with the things the previous posters have said. You should try to get a less distracting background. On the second photo you should rotate it, and crop it a little tighter on the head.

i find the cropping rather boring. she is directly in the center, with her haid quite close to center.... .. doesn't create much interest.. perhaps try doing a closer-up, and put her to one side, or looking a bit to one side or something. or shooting at something other than straight on... it usually improves the shot quite dramatically.

Your daughter`s personality really shines through in these images.
The priority in a picture of this kind is to make sure the background doesn`t compete for attention with the subject...the best way of ensuring this is by getting close to the subject and keeping the aperture setting at the lowest possible to blur any detail from the background.
Once that is achieved..you can adjust the composition to get the best result.
