Hey all! Today, my dad made an offer to buy me a high quality printer so I don't keep robbing his wallet to print my photos at Proex :)

Anyways, I'm looking for some suggestions. I want somethign that MINIMUM can print 13x19, but bigger is better, as long as the price is semi-reasonable.

Here's a couple I'm already considering, and my thoughts:

Epson Stylus Photo R2400: All the reviews I've seen are really positive, and it's supposed to do great BW as well as color. The price may be a bit of a setback, though... It'd take convincing, but it may be realizable.

Epson Stylus Photo R1800: Looks like it combines the right amount of value and awesomeness. The Cnet review said the printhead does some finnicky stuff though, and that worries me...

Canon Pixma Pro9000: Amazon has this for ridiculously cheap. It's about half off with a $100 rebate on top of that. The thing that makes me worry about this is its dye-based inks being much more temporary than the pigment based ones from Epson...

If anyone has/uses any of those particular ones, your opinions would be great! Same goes for ones I don't have listed as well, of course :)

I went with the Epson Pro 3800. I get beautiful 16x24" prints out of it. And the ink lasts for a long time.

As much as I'd like it... The R2400 is a stretch. The R3800 is downright forgettable. I'd love to have one, but it's just too expensive. My parents don't often offer to buy stuff for me (especially expensive stuff), and if I pitched that one to them they'd probably hit me. XD

Go for the R3800 and then when they balk you can downsize to the R2400 and all of a sudden everyone's happy. :-)

ETA: I have the R2200 and have no complaints about it at all. Max print size is 13x44 inches utilizing roll paper.

I explored the details of inkjet printer technology in the Canon and Epson fields a while back. If you want to read about it, please take a gander at these threads:

I got the R1800 recently because of a super mark down plus a $100 rebate. So far I'm very happy with the printer and have no problems (printing). The results are awesome.

Epson has recently come out with the R1900 so the R1800 may have had another price drop.

Just one quirk about the R1800 printer though, the print driver does not turn off colour management even when you tell it to so you have to do all the colour management in the printer driver. Not a problem since the print driver does a very good job of converting profiles with the exception of understanding ProPhotoRGB. What this means is you can't print directly from Lightroom.

This may have been resolved with the R1900 printer since it has come out after the release of Lightroom.
