Week four - I thought we could try the hue, colour, luminance and saturation blending modes. See the OP for the descriptions then experiment away. |

cliff and cow blended with colour
cliff and cow blended with hue - kind of bleh
cliff and cow blended with luminosity @ 40% - cow receding into the cliff
. . . . . . . . . . . then becomes after applying my usual processing
cliff and cow blended with saturation

I guess the enthusiasm has worn off. Only a few days left in this month.
Even if you haven't had a chance to try all the blending modes mentioned in this thread, feel free to post your thoughts on the ones you tried, found most useful, interesting etc.

Last bump for the month. (from me anyway)
I think the most fun was had with difference and exclusion blending modes as they are ones rarely used during regular processing. It was fun to see the weird results.
As far as the remaining ones go, most are used during regular processing so it didn't seem like much of an experiment. More like doing the same old, same old. |

I was interested in the beginning, and had planned to complete all 31 pictures. However, the lack of posts and comments by others sort of turned me off. Nothing against them, since I understand what it's like to be busy, but it's hard to take part in a "month of" side challenge when you're the only one posting anything for 3 days straight.
It's a shame, because this one could have been fun.

Geoff,
Thanks for your input into the thread. It helped a lot.
The lack of participation is probably a lot to do with expectations. I didn't intend it to be a daily posting thread like the others. More of a show your experiments with a specific set of blending modes. Narrow the choices to make it easier to come up with something. It obviously didn't turn out that way.
Oh well.

For what it's worth, I appreciate the effort you took to put this side challenge forward.

One image, a number of layers and a few blending modes.
This image was focused very well on the brick wall so I decided to play.
I ran through my usual processing to get the exposure where I wanted it then the fun began.
I created a version with the exposure +2
I created another version with the exposure +1.33 - blurred this one
blended with multiply
copied this blended image into it's own layer and blended with linear burn
copied the whole mess and blended with itself using colour |
