Hi All,

Please can you help, this may sound silly.......but when do i convert from raw to jpg??

I am taking shots for a HDR image in raw with my 400D
I will then use PhtotoMatrix for the hdr and tonemapping
I then use Elements 6 to run Noise Ninja

My Question is:is it better to convert to raw after the above, before or during? or does it not matter? If If does shall i go back to light room for the conversion?

thanks

Tony

converting to jpg should always be the last step. You only need jpg if you are uploading to the web or sending a file out for printing and the expected format is jpg. In any other case, converting to PSD or TIFF is a better choice since you can maintain 16 bits /channel and the file is not being compressed (or at least not in a lossy format).

will photomatix be able to open your RAW file from camera? if not, then the answer is simple, you'll have to convert from RAW (to JPG or TIFF) before PhotoMatix.
