I've been asked to do a shoot of a couple of houses in which the local power company has done energy efficient upgrades. One is 45 minutes east of me, the other is easily 1 1/2 hours west of me up in the mountains. I don't usually charge for travel time but I'm considering it. What do you think? And if so, what's fair? Thanks for the input!

ask them how they handle travel expenses. depending on how you're charging them, they may pay you your full hourly rate or a portion of it, as well as mileage. my policy is i don't charge for local work, but anything outside of 30 miles i charge for; if you have a similar policy, let them know (and if you don't, then get one ;-) ). depending on the client and their budget, they might kick you an extra $50-250--but, you won't know until you ask.
