I am interested in buying a 2004 Toyota Prius, but would like to hear from people who actually own one. I am trying to decide if I want to let go of my Mustang Convertible for a more energy conscious car. Thanks for any info.

Check out www.DaveRoss.com -- he's owned one for a couple of years and broadcast a review before. They have especially good visibility for shorter drivers. |

Okay, here's a happy commercial for the Prius. I've owned one for a year now and 18,200 pleasure miles later I still love it. Drives like an old-time MG-TD, sips gas like a bird, is quiet and is kind of cute. I've gotten gas mileage as good as 64 mpg, and as low as 36 on San Francisco hills and when I've (ahem) leadfooted it a bit. And it may be that it has gone quite fast. Not that I would commit any wrong-doing. Plus you get a tax credit for the little beauty. I'll be glad to respond to questions with more details... |

If you're in the hunt for a hybrid vehicle don't forget to check out Honda's Civic and Insight. The latter gets over 70 miles to the gal.
I"m considering one myself, especially with the forcast of gasoline prices soaring this year. |

My husband drives a Prius, has been for almost a year now. It's a wonderful car, it looks small but actually feels quite roomy on the inside. Great mileage and the the car handles well. We'd buy it again in a heart-beat.

In December of '02 I bought a more economical car because of the extreme amount of driving I am currently doing (approx. 30,000 mi/year).
I considered Prius, but wound up buying a VW Jetta TDI (diesel), and have been very satisfied. I get around 48 mpg overall, and I "drive it like I stole it". Though it is not a high-performance vehicle it is not an underperformer either, handles well and is quiet and responsive on the highway at 80mph. It is a very practical vehicle, lots of space for an economy car (I have the wagon). So far two thumbs up.

Thanks for the comments. I test drove a Prius last night, and I was pleasantly surprised. Good pick up, roomy, and comfy. Rides very smooth also. I am told that the dealerships cannot get anymore 2004 models this year, as they are now going into production for the 2005 model. I may just order one of the 2005 and wait for it to come in this fall.
I like the fact that I will not be using so much gas or be contributing to the bad air pollution in the area. |

I have had an 04 Prius for three months and, so far, can't say a thing bad about it. It is fun to drive, seats an honest 5 adults with room for luggage and, of course, camera stuff.
Unless you can find a dealer demo, it is almost impossible to locate a new 2004 model. In addition to the Prius, I believe Toyota will be introducing a med SUV using the same hybrid technology.

Batteries are chockfull of many hazardous substances as well. Many of which appear on the top twenty most hazardous substances list. So you might just be trading one kind of pollution for another. |

Yes, they are making a hybrid version of the Highlander for 2005. |
