That's cool. I think we can manage that. Thanks Joeseph!

Thanks for the offer Joseph. I just heard back from cujee and his is fine with us doing things manually.

We need a volunteer that is awake at rollover to send the score to Dirt_Diver. I'm always fast asleep by that time :) Maybe Chris could email his score on tuesday night? That would be the easiest thing.

Dirt_Diver, thanks for volunteering to manually override your spreadsheet for us, you have gone above and beyond...

Thanks, Joseph.

I have one more suggestion that might make it even easier. We have zero points, right?

So can you just totally replace Barbara with Chris? It wouldn't change any results, even if you ended up with zeros for his scores for the first two weeks.

Does that work?
03/13/2008 04:11:17 PM · #179
I didn't even think about that...would it work? I was thinking that the running team average counted for something, but looking back over the rules the only thing that counts in the end is our total points (we have 0 thus far). All we need to know each tuesday is if we came in 1st - 5th so we can be awarded our "points".

No it wouldn't work, it goes back to the SS pulling the results after I tell it too. I would have to rearrange the full sheet to make room for him.

Someone mentioned before to do something like bamartin/chrisxxxxx, that wouldn't work either. If there is a "space" after the user's name it thinks it's a completely different user.

I'm still confused. I was surprised to hear we were the only team who'd had subs, so I looked back at the original thread, and it looks like IreneM replaced Mephisto on Team Germany last week, since Irene has a zero from the first week, but actually got a 6.9936 on Color in Color. In fact, if her score had been counted, they would have been in 1st place that week.

Is this different? I admit I don't know what "SS" means, but I work with spreadsheets all the time, and I'm not getting why a global search and replace wouldn't work.

*scratches head*

Jeff you are correct, IreneM did replace Mephisto but I was notified that she would be replacing him prior to the update. I made a second spreadsheet to allow for this update and once it happened I replaced her score with a 0 because if I would have left her with a 6.9936 it would have put that team into 1st place. Meaning that after I had already posted the results of week 1 and Iceland winning (i think it was them) I couldn't come back and say "just kidding, team so and so had a sub come in so they are the winners now" Again like I said before it is fair to all the other teams.

As far as a find and replace... I know you think it's that easy but it's not. I am not replacing "text" I would be replacing a macro that pulls data from the site put's it in a cell in say tab 1. The results that you see are in tab 4, tabs 2, 3, and 4 contain formulas that calculate data that is placed in tab 1 from the macro. What you think you can do with a simple find and replace is more like rewriting a program.

Okay, I see - it happened before the first update.

I still don't understand why you couldn't do the same thing, and then replace two scores with zeroes. We won't be going back and forth.

I really mean that wording - I don't understand. I believe you, but I don't know enough about it to understand it.

Would you be able to send me the spreadsheet and code? I'm actually pretty curious about how these scripts work - I've thought from time to time of other things I'd like to try that would need to do that. Maybe I could do the work instead of you. But even if not, it'd be fun for me to learn how it works.

Joseph,

Barbara's score doesn't appear to have been counted in week one so could you not just replace the link to her info with a link to the new player's info, then zero out week one and two (just so the new player's score doesn't cause a recalc for those weeks)?

No making room, just changing names/links on one line.

Unfortunately I don't want to hand out the spreadsheet. It's like writing a program that hasn't been published yet. I do have a copyright on it but I still don't want it getting out beyond myself. There is a bunch of magic in there and besides if I sent it to you I'm sure you wouldn't understand it anyway. heheh. Sorry buddy.

03/17/2008 09:37:03 PM · #192
Well, Chris, when you find yourself on the other side of the bar,
I could use another Tanqueray. Uh, this one on the rocks, please.
Hey, I gotta celebrate! I'm STILL at FIVE in Blurry Mess. Of

You want a lime with that gin????

And the white russian, use the good stuff or the cheap, but potent, coffe brandy and "rock gut" vodka? I would suggest Kaluha and Stoly. And would you like milk or cream? I worked behind a bar all through college...

What, and spoil the taste of those juniper berries! Horrors.
Naw, just a little ice, please.

Alice

ETA: You're from the east coast neophyte, Kahlua? Or Tia Maria?
for that white russian...
:-))

PS: East Coast. Hartford. Anywhere near Farmington Ave? My folks used to live
on Tremont St.

User name and score please.

Oh and I forgot to mention that my blurry mess finally stabalized at 6.15.
03/18/2008 12:35:23 PM · #199
Chris? You out there? Joseph, how is that going to work with the scrubber? If he sends you his score just before rollover it will be different than his final score? Does he need to wait until after rollover to provide his score?
