Anybody want to take a look at a first attempt? It's at that other forum.

Wow, I'm sure glad I put that placeholder in competition yesterday.
My Vista OS is corrupt and must be replaced "any day now" . That
day is getting very close because today all my Adobe products shut
down. That includes Photoshop, so until I figure out how to
reinstall Vista (or can get someone to do it) no more entries for me!
:-((

Oh gaaak! I come here to troll your thread and see this. That is SO annoying, and maddening! Maybe you can try a System Restore and roll the OS back to a healthier time? Try to get some fixes before you do anything drastic, it could save you a lot of time. Good luck!

I made a less than brilliant mistake which leaves me out of the running for this next week. I purchased a new camera from B&H, but it will not be here until the middle of next week. In the meantime I sold my 10D on ebay, and have committed to sending it to its new home on Saturday morning.

Sorry guys.

Well it turns out I may be without a camera for a couple of weeks. At this point it is probably prudent to ask chris48083 if he wants to take my place on the team.

I nominate Bear_Music as the new captain.

Sorry guys.

Ohhhh, no you don't, Barbara. You can still captain without entering. :)

On the subject of this week, my silverware shot clawed its way about 6.

I'm at a dissapointing 5.4 in tilted. I've got a good idea for this week. I agree with Jeff, You can still be Captain.

Barbara, just because you don't have a camera for a while doesn't disqualify you from
being our Captain! On the contrary!

Pretty soon I'm going to turn off my computer and reinstall Vista, so if and when I
return, I hope to find you still are Our Captain!

Your lack of a camera does not disqualify you from captaincy. Possibly, the latest upheavals in your personal life might make it more comfortable for you to step down as you deal with them? Let us know...

I am afraid that even with a camera I might not be up for this right now. Thanks for understanding Robert.

Hello Team USA! Looks like I've missed a lot while I was away! First of all let me say that I'm proud of our team average! 6.2 something? Wow, that is an amazing average!

I'm afraid I won't be contributing to this week's score either as my silverware shot is hovering at 5.0. I'm in a real funk lately and will have to shoot my way out of it! LOL

Barbara, I agree with what everyone else has said...you can still be captain if the only reason is you won't be able to shoot for the next couple of challenges. On the other hand if you want to step down because of other issues then I certainly would understand. Since you are captain I want the decision to be yours, but just know that I support whatever you want to do.

I've shot a blurry mess, but I don't have a clue how it will be voted on. It has some clarity to it so you can tell what it is so maybe won't score well....anyway, I've completely lost touch with voters anyway so I'm just going to submit something that I like.

Good night and talk to you later....

Barbara, of course you should do what's best for you given what's recently happened. Just be well and care for your family. For those of you who haven't seen the thread, Barbara's daughter was in a serious car accident, and her daughter's boyfriend and another friend were killed. Here's the thread.

You know, gang, there's nothing wrong with having an "Honorary Captain" which would keep Barbara
in our thoughts and may be inspire the team to great heights. That would keep Barbara from having to
worry about the every day affairs of the Team but still keep her involved as she should be.

Perhaps if that works for others, we could take it from there. Chris comes on the team as an active player,
and one of the players (Robert? Jason? or ?) takes over as Active Captain.

What do you all think.

Barbara, I hadn't seen the thread until now...I'm so sorry for your and your daughter's loss. My prayers will be with you and your family.

Alice, I agree with your thoughts. I don't want Barbara to feel like she has to do anything here...please just focus on your family Barbara and know that we support you no matter what happens here.

Whatever the team decides as far as a captain goes I'll be fine with it and Barbara will always be our Honorary Captain! (unless of course she wants to keep being captain which would also be fine..)

Barbara, please keep us updated on the status of your daughter.

03/11/2008 11:00:28 AM · #141
It would be very nice if someone would come forward as team captain before rollover tonight.

That way, we could enroll Chris on the team, make Barbara honorary captain, and make this team
something she can be pleased with when she can focus on something else again.

I still take myself out of the running for Captain as my computer continues to be unreliable
and I don't want to be incommunicado at the wrong time.

So, Please? Somebody? You're all good at this.
03/11/2008 11:13:24 AM · #142
What are the actual duties of Captain? Perhaps I could do it. No promises, but If I know the actual responsibilities I might be able to take over on an interim basis.
03/11/2008 01:07:06 PM · #143
Here are the rules as they appear in the original post. Not much to go on, but from what I can figure out, someone has to be the "leader."

Barbara has 'resigned' elsewhere in this thread, and Chris has volunteered to be a replacement, also elsewhere in this thread.

Okay so the name and idea may be a bit lame, but I had a lot of time on my hands so I decided to arrange this new DPC tournament here in celebration of the 2008 Summer Olympics this year(despite it being in August).

So here are the requirements for entering The DPC Olympics:
- Both members and non-members may join

- Teams will be based on what COUNTRY you are born in. For example, if you were born in United States you will be automatically placed on the USA team. (no exceptions) :P

- Each team must have at least 5 people and at most 7. The members will be selected on a first come first serve basis. The first 7 people who post on this forum saying they would like to participate fills the spot. If you are unable to retrieve at least 5 people for your team/country, then you will not be able to participate :(

- Since both members and non-members may join this tournament, the challenges will be Exclusive Open Challenges

- During the challenge you must have at least 4-5 people in your team participate, or it is an automatic forfeit. The winning team will be based on the average score comprised of the participants in the challenge.

- For the format of the tournament: If there are 4-7 countries only participating then it will be a round-robin tournament. If 8 or more then most likely it will be an ELIMINATION one.

-An alternate may only be a replacement. If one of the members of your team quit the tourney for some reason because they feel they can't participate in many of the challenges, then the alternate comes in. Essentially, the alternate cannot be used unless someone from their team OFFICIALLY resigns their position.

- The Deadline for entrants will be Febuary, Friday the 15th.

- First Challenge will be February 20th.

- Draws will be selected Randomly (No seeded teams)

- Top 3 finishers will receive custom made avatars (they won't be fancy :P) But still fun.

If you wish to join, please also post which country you are representing. I will be updating this post with countries and their members :)

Update: There will be team captains for each country, any member can volunteer or be voted for by their fellow team mates. The team captain is responsible for making sure that each of their team mates are committed to the tournament. If one of them is not, the team captain has the option to remove his/her team mate from the competition. If an alternate is available, a captain may use the alternate as a replacement.
A Bolded Name means Team Captain

Update

Okay guys, I am unsure what kind of format this tournament should be. It would rather be ELIMINATION or ROUND ROBIN. Or I can arrange some sort of POOL system. But I have no idea how to do that, so if we did do a POOL system, I would need lots of help arranging it and doing all that mathematical statistical mumbo jumbo :P

Update

Hey guys, courtesy of Dirt_Diver, we now have a nice spreadsheet of the tournament :)
//www.treasureshackonline.com/DPC_Olympics.htm

Rules
1. All teams must have at least 4 members enter the challenge. In addition the top 4 scores will be calculated under the weekly average for the team. Iâve decided to use the top 4 because this allows everyone to bring their âAâ game to this tournament. Also, a lot of teams have 2-3 great players, and they can simply dominate the entire competition. This is a team effort, so 2 or 3 players shouldnât be doing everything.
2. In terms of the point system, Iâve decided to adopt a simple one with giving a certain amount of points for the top 5 teams.
1st â 10
2nd â 6
3rd â 4
4th â 3
5th â 2
If you guys have a problem or questions about the system, please feel free to e-mail me.
3. The competition will be 8 weeks worth of challenges. The challenges will be
ONLY Exclusive Open Challenges, since some teams donât have members that belong to DPC. The first challenge will be on February 20th 2008. We are NOT entering the current challenges (Leading Lines, and Peace) we are entering the ones that come out on February 20th.
3. After 8 weeks, the top 3 teams with the highest amount of points will receive medals that they can put up on their profile J
4. As team captains, it is your job to inspire your teammates and make sure they participate every week or nearly every week.
5. To check out results of your team and the other teams, go to this link //www.treasureshackonline.com/DPC_Olympics.htm courtesy of Dirt_Diver

Dates
February 20th, February 27th, March 5th, March 12th, March 19th, March 26th, April 2nd, and April 9th.

Please e-mail me back if you have any concerns

Thanks, Jon

I'd be willing to captain if Dexter doesn't want to. There really isn't much to being a captain (well at least not on my DPL team), but the first duty will be to officially designate Christopher ( chris48083) as the replacement for Barbara.

Barbara, if you get a chance I would like for you to weigh in on this..I know you are all for it as you said in your previous post, but I just want to make double sure....

We really do need to get this done before tonight's rollover especially if Barbara doesn't have anything submitted.

I vote for Jason, too! Mostly so I don't have to volunteer. :)

Hey, on another note, I'd love to see all of Team USA enter the EPA 2008 Earth Day Photo Contest.

I don't know whether I'll have anything for tonight, but my silverware entry is clinging desperately to a 6:

My silverware is clinging to a 5 LOL. I'm about to submit my blurry mess shot and it could score anywhere from 3.5 to 6.5.

Thanks Juliet, but it probably isn't a good sign when an opponent votes you to be a captain...Team Germany realizes I'm perfectly capable of sinking the ship :)

I'll keep an eye out for some earth day shots...Jeffrey, you have to elaborate more on this (from the posted thread above):
