| Isn't that normal to register a product cost that much, right after you receive it anyway :P I did register mine as soon as I got the machine even it cost lot less than Mark III... it's kind of no-brainer :P |

Did you register online? I think I sent my card in. But look at the online "benefits" to registering the Mark III. Canon does NOT list those benefits on some of the other cameras that I clicked on. I think this is response to the AF issues that the Mark III had.

I always register online where if company offers it. Usually large companies these days have online registration...
If some reason you did not register your camera, or lens, I strongly suggest you to do so. There are many benefits, but the most important benefits are the warranty. Registering the product activates the warranty, because it has all the information company needs, such as serial number.
So, good thing to register your expensive and sensitive equipments as soon as possible.
If you did send the card, I believe you have all the current benefits, even they were not mentioned before... but it's good to know of course :) |

I still think you missed the point. Yes, I registered back when I bought the camera. I usually do. It's _BIG_ investment.
The "point" I was making was that the online registration that canon is NOW offering benefits to the Mark III customer that it's not offering to others - and probably specifically because of the AF issues that the Mark III has had.
If you have a Mark III, I think it is good to take advantage of this offer from Canon in order to receive those specific benefits which may not be available to those having registered by sending in the registration or by registering PRIOR to this offer being made available.
I'm trying to help out the Mark III customers .... okay?

They WILL fix the AF issues under warranty, for free. The voucher is extra stuff to make up for the inconvenience of having a professional camera with a bug in it. And that other stuff, is what Canon offers its pros, basically; if you're a pro photographer you can register for all that priority support etc. But in this case, you can still get it as an amateur. That's how I read it anyway...

and anticipating that something else will go wrong.
if they want to cater to pros - they should release a series of working units. not pad the fact you paid big money for one of their products with fluff to make you think you're getting a deal.

I got the same when I registered my 1DMKII. It's the same offer they make to all series 1 cameras I believe. I still have my $100 voucher should I ever need it.

AHA! So it is. I just checked on the Canon web site and the same set of benefits is available to most of the 1D series cameras ... and interestingly enough, also to the 5D, but not to the other cameras. So I guess it has nothing to do with the AF issues after all. Just standard operating procedure.
