PSP X2 (and other tools, I'm sure) has a lighten/darken brush and also a dodge/burn brush. I'm trying to understand the difference between them. Traditionally (i.e. in darkroom methods) I think dodge/burn has something to do with exposure.

Dodge/burn seems to be favored, but I'm not sure I understand why. Any thoughts, or resources you can point me to, would be great. Thanks.
