IS that right??? Cos if that is right (which again, I am not sure if it is) that seems pretty pointless in having teams, it would have been better just to have done this individually.

Again, I am not sure if I read or understood it correctly though.

Well no. Instead of just having one person play, the whole team plays and the highest average score among the 2 teams goes to the next round.

Will it be like the league where the top 4 scores of each team are then averaged as the teams final score...which allows for an off week by a teamie...?

If we were to make it Round Robin. It would have to be in Pools or Divisions. Then the Top 3 from each Division play against each other and so on.

Well I was thinking that whoever participates on your team will be put into the average equation. But you must have at least 4 participants. The problem I see with this, is that you can think strategically and use your 4 best players and make everyone else not participate. At the same time, no team would probably do that because it would be unfair to their fellow mates.

Exactly...which is why the 4 top scores for the team works so well.

Well, that doesnt seem fair, to be honest. You only get one crack at it. Maybe just competing agaisnt each other for the overall higest score weekly, would be a little fairer?

I TYPE TOO SLOW!

Well we could all just face each other as one big thing. But we would continually do this for I dunno about 4-5 challenges, or however many you guys wanna do. Then we take our average scores from all 4-5 challenges and average those out.

I think that that is a good idea Judi. The top scores of each team weekly. Yes, brilliant. That way it is fair on everybody in the team and no one gets eliminated just becuase they are having a crap week (or entered into Reflections!)
02/12/2008 07:57:11 PM · #384
Okay so we take the top 4 scorers on the team, average them out and do a challenge every week for however many weeks.

I think that works, if you all think that works?

I think it's the best way to go.

PHHHHHHEwww, thought I was going to get eliminated in the first round hahahah

How about this... to be more Olymic-ish...

Top four scores of the whole lot get 'medals'. Gold, Silver, etc. Team with the most medals after several "events" wins. That's how it works in the Olympics, right?

Of course this may pose several problems, especially time-wise. But it would be simpler and more true to life.

edit to add: you guys are the professionals... this is a going to be a great tourney and I can't wait to watch!!!

Sorta. If you're referring to Triathlon and stuff like that you are right. They do compete in several events, but they don't get a medal per event, it's all one thing to get the medal.

Just thinking in the olympic way (perhaps a little early): Any alliance possible? Suggestions: China/Taiwan, Holland/Argentina, Holland/South Africa, Holland/India/Bangladesh/Pakistan

The DPL-like divisions makes sense for this. In the olympics for team sports you have countries placed in different groups (A, B, C, D, etc). Each team in the group plays each other once and then say the top two from each division advance into an elimination tournament until you have a gold medal and bronze game.
02/12/2008 08:32:05 PM · #394
Yanko, that is still the same thing though. You get eliminated. What Judi said about the scores I think would work well for everyone. So I second Judi and on behalf of my teammates, they third, fourth, fifth, sixth her.

**********************************************************************

Okay here is what I suggest we do. Those that are with me say so. Those that are not let me know why.

Okay lets say that there is 18 teams (any even number will work)The first 18 play all against each other. The two teams with the lowest TEAM AVERAGE are dropped in round 2.

In round 2, the 16 winners from round 1 will play each other. The two teams with the lowest TEAM AVERAGE are dropped in round 3.

In round 3, the 14 winners from round 2 will play each other. The two teams with the lowest TEAM AVERAGE are dropped in round 4.

And so on and so on. That will put us at 9 weeks or how ever many teams we have divided by two will let you know how many challenges we will have.

Anyway, eventually we will get down to the final 2 teams and they will compete for the gold.

Now that means that there is only a 1st and 2nd place but we all know that 2nd place is the 1st loser, hahaha.

Now about the team averages. Like everyone else say in the posts before this one. The top 4 scores from each team will be the team average.

This way everyone plays everyone and it's as fair as it can be. If we do A,B,C,D stuff it breaks teams down into seeds. Then we would need to get seed averages just like DPL. My suggestion puts everyone on the same level.

Well what do you think???

Yes Joe...and the top 4 scores for each team are averaged for the team score.

Nope not with you on this one Dirt, sorry sweets.

This I think is great though (lol)

This way everyone gets to play

Well we wanted to avoid kicking off teams after the first round, cause they could've just had a bad round or something. The whole point is to give them more than one chance to prove themselves, even though you don't get more than one chance during the Olympics :P

Hajeka, FYI Tropical Islands is an alliance, started with 3 people from Singapore plus 2 people from two different Carribean islands; then two more people were added once this alliance was formed. From a historical perspective Holland/South Africa would be a very legitimate alliance. You might PM cujee to bring his attention to this. [In case you are aware of my last name and are wondering, yes I am originally Dutch, but I was born in Singapore, and thus per the original set of rules I had to go with Singapore rather than Holland.]

How many chances should everyone get? How many rounds are played before a team is eliminated? How do they get eliminated from a round?

And I understand the whole top 4, for a team average thing.
