EEKKK HELP someone please!!!!!!!! I accidentally deleted about half of my photos eekk dont ask how :( i cannot believe I have done this!!! I am still waiting on an engagement session I had to place their print order and all of their photos are gone!!! eekkk, I downloaded that recover my files thing, and somehow that program is saying it found the photos, but is there a FREE way I can look for these? Im guessing they are still on my hard drive somewhere just not sure where, they never made it into the recycle bin or anything! :(

Completely a Stressed Mess!

Calm down. Take a deep breath.

Tell us as much as you can about your system, OS, software, etc.. What were you doing? What software (if any) do you use to manage your photos? Did you delete them using Windows (drag to trash, etc.) or did you do something in your management software. Etc. tell us as much as you can.

Ok i was trying to load a pattern into my Paint Shop Pro 11 well for some reason it loaded all my photos i had, causing the program to be really slow!!! I knew i should have used my Photoshop :( but i was just trying to write a word in a pattern. Well when i saw all my photos in there I thought it was just loaded into the pattern files, so I went in and clicked and deleted almost 4000 photos, not thinking anything since it was in that program, well then later i went back to look thru my photos for a certain one and they were all gone!!! EEKKK so i immediately went to my recycle bin and there was alot of them on there, the only ones on there were ones that were in separate files, like say I had a file dated Feb.5th and then within that file i had "edited" folder, well those all were saved, however I do not save all my photos like that, some and most i just keep directly in the main folder, well those are the ones that are gone, not anywhere i can find. I have windows XP if that helps. Thank GOD i burned 2 weddings I did to disks just over the weekend!!! Or i would have lost allllll those too. Ok hope that helps you help me lol

THANK YOU!!!!!!

MOST IMPORTANTLY DONT WRITE ANYTHING TO THE DRIVE TILL YOU RECOVER THE PHOTOS.

For free software, try "photorec."
It seems to do a very nice job for a free program.

Just don't overwrite the card whatever you do.

all the best.

Well, one option is to restore your system to how it was before you deleted the files.

Start->All Programs->Accessories-> System Tools-> System Restore

This will allow you to revert to a date you chose, and should get your photos back.

No, that won't work, system restore doesn't restore files only registry states.

You may be right.

I posted this solution to someone who deleted a folder of images, and she was able to get them back. I figured it might work in this situation as well. It might not.

Aah--I missed that it was your hard drive before. photorec is best for a flash card. You could try testdisk (also free), but you might save time and a headache with paid software. In either case, you'll need an external hard drive on which to save the recovered files.

all the best

you might try these. I've never had to use them, but they've been reviewed by PC Mag.

I'm assuming you meant to say "and its not bringing up my photos that I need..."

What you can do now is put a back-up solution in place so that if anything like this ever happens again, you can simply go to your backup drive and restore everything you lost!

The Western Digital MyBooks are pretty good. Also, for an online solution, I'm looking at this:
