It's a slow day here at the ole office so I thought to myself, why not office some critiques up on DPC. so here's the deal: First 15 to post their photo here will get the most indepth critique I can manage (such as my thoughts can be called critique).

I don't have a flikr account so I'll comment here.
I love the colours in the shot very vibrant and pleasing. I'd like to know more about your processing steps because I think ther could probably be some improvement there. As far as composition I like the framing. the negative space you've created with the shot works for me showing the flower against all that open space.
Very nice in general |

Whoops! I keep forgetting you need to have a flickr account to post comments.
Thanks, Eyesup! I would love some advice on the processing. This one took me WAY longer than it should have. I had a hard time coming up with an exposure that would light the sky and the flower properly, so I ended up exposing for the flower on the dark side. I created a duplicate layer, erased the flower, darkened the sky a LOT, blended it together as best I could to try to make it look seemless. Then I had to whiten the clouds becasue they looked kinda yellow. Flattened it, duplicated the layer, applied gaussian blur at 25 set it to multiply at 23% opacity. But, really, I would LOVE some advice on it because I really think it could pop more. |

Couple of things... I think a border would help to contain the picture a bit more and draw the focuse from wandering off the side of the photo. from what I could see from the smallersized picture, some more time in blending (zooming way in and paying attention to the edges) would help. not sure what you could do to make the colours pop any more... I think you've done a good job on that. |

Really curious how this would have done in a challenge, so I appreciate any feedback, and I hope it livens up your day a little.

Thank you in advance!!!
It is a slightly (read that totally) un-processed photo. Not sure what I can do to bring out the foreground without disturbing the colors of the sky nor the partial silhouette of the dozer.
Again...thank you!

I purchased CS2 but am trying to figure things out with it. My biggest problem is not knowing exactly WHAT the program is able to do... other than make wonderful stuff happen!

I think a start would be with a curves adjustment... also try using the dodge too on the dump truck to brighten it up a bit. |

Try using shadow/highlight as a start. Its an easy adjustment. You can adjust the slider to adjust the amount of change. You can adjust the shadow only and leave the sky as it is.
This is the result of a 30 second edit.
