Mmmm...I made $1100 and spent $4500 from September thru December doing a few photography assignments. Paid out 80 bucks to 5 different counties in taxes.
I haven't been pursuing any business, just word of mouth assignments. I still don't have the accessories I want or the lighting. I might have to go back to just a hobby or else get-it-in-gear!
Has anyone ever displayed and sold their photos at craft shows? I wonder if that would be worth all the time involved in the set up, etc.?

I have done of that and without a lot of success. The crowd really needs to be aimed at your specialty to have good results. If you could find someone who does it all the time and put some in on consignment, then at least you save your labor (time sitting doing nothing).

Looking at your portfolio, I wonder if you wouldn't do well begging wall space from vets, kennels, pet stores, etc? Often they are happy to have new pictures on the walls.

Good idea for the vet and pet stores. Thanks for the suggestion. We've got a new general store coming soon and also a deli. (Both a real plus for our area.) I was going to approach them. There's probably already threads on this, but what's a fair (ballpark) consignment fee?
