Several of us here in Utah and the Intermountain West are meeting in Vernal on Saturday, March 6. We'll meet in the Utah State University parking lot (the north, larger lot) at 12:30. I teach a storytelling class in Roosevelt, so I may be a few minutes late.
We're not sure where we're going yet, but the McConkie Ranch has been suggested, which houses a wonderful panel of petroglyphs, and Dinosaur National Monument has also been suggested, which has some of the more interesting scenery of the area.
It has been raining there recently, so most of the snow has melted (unless the rain turned to snow last night!). I expect to see just a bit of icy, crusty snow.
You folks from Colorado and Wyoming are also invited! Vernal is about 2.5 hours from Evanston, about 6 hours from Grand Junction, 3 hours from Salt Lake City/Provo, and 4.5 hours from Logan, about 6 hours from Denver (if the mountain passes are open), and about 14 hours from southern California!

I think there might be a fair chance that I could be able to do that. I just barely got a scholarship to Utah State University in the mail the other day. I need to go down there here in the near future to do some things. I live in Boise (well, Meridian) which is about 4 hours away, so that is something I would be really interested in. Just keep me posted.

There is no such thing as bad weather for photographers!
Besides, it was snowing today here in Logan, but Vernal is 4 hours away and on the other side of the mountains and 2000 feet lower in elevation. It's a totally different environment. I will be keeping my eye on the weather, though! Those mountain passes can get pretty bad with snow (and also pretty lovely!)

but snowshoeing? is that "bad weather?" Anytime I can get out there and just mill around is alright by me. Snow, rain, heat, who cares. I want to get down into one of the canyons with some big pour offs during the Spring rains....spectacular show and pics

Vernal's weather forecast for Saturday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the low 40s. I think there'll be some great images captured. And some information exchanged. And some good times shared with people who share the passion for photography! I am EXCITED! |

After all of the hullabaloo, I just checked the weather, and it's going to be snowing tonight and tomorrow over the mountains that lead from my home to Vernal. Last month it took me over 8 hours to drive home, and I was sliding all over the place; I don't want to go through that again.
So I'll be teaching my class via satellite tonight and will NOT be driving to Vernal.
I recommend we reconnoiter on the first week of April, when I'll be going again. It should be much more Spring-like then.
However, if you still want to meet, go ahead. I just won't be there this time 'round.
Sorry!

Oh geez! I was looking forward to seeing most everyone there. I don't know yet if all of us over in Salt Lake are still going to do something. |

I will have to keep in touch with you all. I would love to see you guys and take some shots with you.
Our weather up here is still pretty cold and snowy. April or even May would be a great time to meet. I would prefer May to April so we don't have to bundle up. But any how...let me know what you all have planned.
