My son Ian would like comments on his first serious attempt at an art photograph!

Here is his shot:

I like it. I can tell that he put a lot of thought into this, the flag, the bear saluting, and background all tie into the patriotic/military theme. For the critisisms, I don't like the border, a little too distracting from the photo, and it looks like there is some grain in the image, although some probobly like it. Overall, I'd say very impressive for 11 years old.

I would like to say the same thing to your son as I do to my 6 year old - just keep clicking.

Nice picture.

Well, If that is your first 'serious work' then I would guess that you just might have a few that didn't look this GREAT! If you are using equipment that is new to you then be sure to read the manual. There are often times the 'keys' to making great pictures that people completely over look. If you have someone helping you with the equipment and the programs to process the picture afterwords then ask them questions when ever you don't completely understand. (Then again you may be teaching them!) In any event I always suggest that people 'do' something they really enjoy & if you do you'll no doubt get better at it. A trick to good photography is to always use something attractive or appealing as your subject or make it so with your 'photographers eye'. Keep up the GREAT work.

Good job Ian! Very Cute! I believe the lighting is really good on it to! Great subject! the border does take away from the hole picture maybe a darker one color for a matte finish!

Thanks faidoi! I also told him that I was thinking about trying to make a print file for it. He got really excited! Think he's seing dollar signs...

PS: Thanks to all who commented, Ian had to go to bed a couple of hours ago, but I'll make sure he sees all comments in the AM!

It's great!!! Good job Lan! Sign him up for DPChallenge so we can see more.

Also, I'd like to know the camera settings on this one, cause the pic page doesn't show them. I think the ISO may have been high because of the grain (which someone mentioned). So get him Neatimage for his birthday maybe? :)
