I've had an Olympus 740-UZ for about 9 months mow..it's my first digital, at the time I bought it, I had no idea I'd become obsessed with digital..my question is; I have been researching the Canon EOS 300D... Can anyone tell me the advantage to upgrading? My major complaint about the 740 is the lag time between shots. Any help would be appreciated! |

Did you do a forum search for "Rebel 300D" or "300D"?
There are a ton of replies in those. |

Biggest advantage is you can change lenses

If your biggest complaint is lag time, then go for it. With the Rebel there really isn't any lag, and shot-to-shot time is also very fast. You'll also see a big difference in noise levels- the Rebel is very clean (better than an 8mp "consumer" cam). You will be giving up that long zoom, though, unless you get another lens. |

I am planning to upgrade from my G5 to a 10D. My main reasons are:
1. Faster AF
2. Dramatically less shutter lag
3. Lower noise at all ISO's
4. Better long exposure capability
5. Better lenses/wider range
7. Overall increased control
FWIW, I spent years shooting with film SLR's, going to a "prosumer" digicam was a real shift from what I had been using. Oh yeah, I also plan to get an Elan 7 to go along with the 10D so I can shoot film when I want or need to.

Maybe not in three weeks, but inevitably it will be outdated. Here is some discussion that I started on the subject a couple days ago...

You gotta jump on at some point. Otherwise life will pass you by. All the time you wait just means you're missing photo opps while you wait for the next new thing.
The Rebel is still fairly new (sept 2003). I doubt they will do anything for at least another year or so.
BTW, for me, the 3 main reasons to change were:
1. IMAGE QUALITY
2. IMAGE QUALITY !
3. IMAGE QUALITY !!!
All the other stuff is just icing on the cake.
Jump on in, the water's nice.

Ah Ha! I knew it! The reason I wasn't scoring straight 10's was the "camera"! ;-)
I feel so much better.... ..I will take the plunge by the end of March... |
