Yes, but he leaves out a whole bunch on how to protect yourself and at least here in the USA, how people can empower themselves to actually be able to do something about copyright infringement. It's one thing to take a deep breath and sit back, but it's a totally different story when after you have calmed down and are now ready to reasonably and calmly try to do something about it and find out that you can't. If people do not have their images registered with the copyright office before they are infringed upon, then the majority of people won't be able to afford to do a thing to protect their copyright. You might be able to get them to stop using your image, but you probably won't be able to do anything about any benifit or profit they had while they were using your image(s). The automatic copyright on your images protects you about as much as the suitcase lock protects your valuables while you are traveling... or in other words, it keeps the honest person honest and your underware from falling out.

Hehe. Evil. :-)

PS: When I click on a link to purchase an individual print, nothing seems to happen. Could it be disabled already?

Yes, but you still have the "print all" option.

Now click on "shopping cart" and they should be in there. And ya, I'm a little devil at times. :-)

nope, not disabled yet ... you just have to click on the shopping cart tab at the top right and you'll see the image there ... unbelievable!

It should also be noted here (since I have not seen it elsewhere on the site) that the copyright office is beta testing an option for uploading digital files directly to them and paying the fees online. (Read about this in the Feb 2008 Popular Photography)

The site to register as a beta tester is //www.copyright.gov if anyone is interested. It takes a couple of days for them to get back to you, and I have not tried uploading anything until I get a little more organized, but I thought y'all might be interested.

one day I'm going to open one of these stolon photo threads, click on the link, and see one of my shots.

Hasn't happened yet, but when it does I will be publically outraged and secretly flattered!

Seriosly, can he make a decent 4x6 print from a 720 pixel or smaller image? He's also offering 5x7s.

This is in direct violation of Fotki terms of service as well.

I filed a complaint with Fotki.com however it would probably hold more weight if the affected photographers did the same for their own images.

I'd say they are challenge winners -- easy to see and get.

I am also filing a complaint.

You can get any size you want up to 30"x40", he does warn that the print quality will be poor but he'll still sell you one for $19.

Actually, I think Skip's advice to, in some cases, take infringement as flattery, let it slide or just be happy with the image's removal is dead wrong.

Guy has no taste whatsoever; not a single skiff/marsh image to be seen...

It looks like he created this album in October of 2006. ( //www.miltonp.fotki.com/florida/zpsf/)
So these communications might come as a bit of a surprise to him...

Because it's a hassle for the legit and ultimately pointless in protecting images from theft.

Not saying it would be entirely safe from theft, but it would make it a bit harder to get hold of?

well, irene, you're agreeing with a misquote. spaz, i NEVER said take it as flattery and to let it slide. i basically said you don't necessarily need a sledgehammer to rid yourself of an ant.

that article of mine was a starting point for dealing with the issue; i just haven't had time to write the second (or third parts). the primary point was to not freak out when you find situations like this.

as for this one, after a quick summary glance at the thread, it looks like it is something that should easily resolve. either the guy had malicious intent and should burn in hell, or he doesn't really know what he's doing or what he's gotten into and he's in the process of getting an education.
