Could anyone tell me which filter i should use for macro photography,i'm thinking of buying the Nikon 105 vr micro and want to protect it.I've seen clear filters which apparently don't stop any light entering but a uv filter seems the obvious choice.Would it make it a slower lens as it's an f2.8 and i'd like to keep it that way.

A UV filter doesn't affect your exposure - well, not by more than a trivial amount.

The good UV filters let through more than 99.9% of visible light. Even the bad ones let through >90% or >95%.
