Are you allowed to use selective desaturation with the Advanced Editing rules? I've got a picture I'd like to use with the free study for this month, but I'm not sure if the editing I've done will fly. Thanks.

Yes, Karen said that you can use selective desat, but I'd like to caution you against it unless you have something that really needs selective desat to make the image work.

I've looked at your portfolio; you do powerful work. I was especially impressed with "Strange Love" for the Surrealism challenge. You have enough experience so you should take what I say with a grain of salt.

My feeling is that there are lots of digital effects that look really good the first time you see them but the glow only lasts for about ten images. After that, my reaction becomes "oh, no, not another xxx." I've reached that point with selective desat; I usually rate images using selective desat gratuitously very low (3 or 4). But sometimes I see images that use selective desat in a powerful and creative way. I rate these very high.

I hope that your images fall into the latter category.
