Hey fellow DPC'ers,

I'm looking for a program that you can put lots of images into and then make up one new shape out of them. Do any of you know of a piece of software that would do this?

Thanks for your help,

Natalya

Hi Jonathan, thanks for your reply. I suppose this is sort of what I am looking for. Do the smaller images have to be the same subject as the main image??

I remember using the Photomosiac for GIMP plug-in a few years back, but I believe it was discontinued for copyright infringement. I also recall it was rather flakey. I'm not sure if you can still find it for download anywhere.

Definitely not. Basically how it works is you pick a handful of images to use as the smaller photographs. The software determines which ones are lighter, and which ones are darker and arranges them to look like the main image you have chosen.

Here is a link to free photo mosaic softwares. I have not used them before.

Not really what is being asked, but the latest Mac OS, Leopard, has a screen saver that creates a mosaic of an image (on your system) from images selected from all those on your system. The mosaic fades into the image, which becomes one of the mosaic images for the next mosaic. Fascinating to watch but probably doesn't save the screen (nor does it save power).
