...do you go light or dark on your shots. Lately, I have been getting reemed bc my shot is too dark & other times for being too overexposed. Not placing blame anywhere other than where it belongs (with myself if any were wondering). So, for this upcoming challenge I want to be super careful. I have changed my shot several times and am still unsure of what to do. Do people find that most others' monitors are on the lighter side or darker side?

Any feedback and/or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is there a certain shot that is looking too dark or light? Post it so we can help.

Faidoi, my man! I would post it but I want to submit it for the conflict challenge. Dunno what to do!!! I want to be cautious about the lighting, not making it too light or dark for the EVER differing monitors at DPC.

I know what you mean. Looking at some of the discussion threads after the black challenge it makes me wonder too.

Rooster, in your "Blowing in the Wind" shot for Elements, you had good lights and darks all across the board on my monitor, even with the difficult brown grass you had to contend with.

Hows the b&w bar on the bottom of the voting pictures looking for you? Total separation of each box?

no. the the last three on the black side blend into each other. But here's the thing. I pm-ed a few folks that said my last shot was too dark (still in the textures challenge) & most of them hadn't calibrated their monitors. I'm guessing that this is true for most folks (would love to be proven wrong on this). So I'm wondering if people's monitors are on the darker or lighter side. Dilemma, dilemma!

Cool! I think that colour shots far well with the differences in monitor caliberation but that b&ws take a beating. The shot I want to enter is a b&w.

I've been doing a lot of b&w because my color shots have been getting a beating.

I have repeatedly found that the last two or three boxes on the dark end are indistinguishable; whether two or three depends on room lighting. If you can easily see the difference in all the dark boxes, your monitor may be miscalibrated.

To answer the question, I'd say most people's monitors are too dark.

Thanks. That's what I suspected!
