I know I love photography, but I must admit I have no idea about cameras, lenses and overall photo equipment...
The thing is, someone offered me a job in a picture (as the steady cam), since he liked my photo style, but part of my work is to make a quotation for photo equipment for the movie...
I have to search in Mexican stores, but I need the best equipment possible... He also wants Canon...
So, I will ask for prices on Cameras Mark III, Mark II and 5D, besides megapixels (and price of course), what´s the difference between them?
Then I need lenses, wich is even worst for me... He wants really good quality lenses with very good luminocity... ehem... I have the lense that came with my camera and I bought a zoom (that was quite cheap so I guess its not very good quality). My lenses are a 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 II, and a 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III... I know what the mm numbers mean.. But, what does the other mean (1:3.5-5.6, etc??) that has to do with the quality right? wich numbers would be for a high quality, luminocity lense?
And last, he wants a lighting equipment set (did I mention it is a new production house?)he wants continous light and flashes... Everything good quality... What do I have to buy to have a complete lighting equipment? how much power? I looked at the alien bees page (and btw, all the specifications are nonsense to me), I cant buy them (taxes stuff) but are they good? (to have as a reference)...
I know I am a shame for the photographers community (hehehe) but I will really apreciate all the help you can give me .
Thanks in advance! |

The lower the number the wider the aperature opens up and the more light into the camera. This means a faster shutter spped is able to be used and you should have a clearer photo. Not sure about the lights. I am actually waitng for my lights to arrive, I have a flash kit coming for portrait photos so cant offer advice.

no no no. The numbers are fstop, which determines how much light comes in. If he wants a lot of light you need to get smaller numbers, like between 1.2 and 2.8. They are more expensive but worth it.
I love my alien bees lights. They are quick, portable strong and bright. Wonderful setup. I would say get 2-3 lights with umbrellas or softboxes and a wireless trigger setup. I don't know much about continuous lights though
