Link To Cissy Photo ShootSo, i know some of the photos the lighting is off really bad. I really need some suggestions on how I can possibly fix these in photoshop elements 6.0. I really appreciate and respect all of your opinions. Also, i would like to know which one is your favorite. Please help.

Thanks,

Jamie

Cute shots. One of the cardinal rules in portraits is general don't have a tree growing out of the head. Now I don't shoot portraits so these could be just heresay. Overall I think the shots are nice.

I agree with you about the tree. It was so hard to get the kids to pose, very hard. They were very hard to work with as they are not diciplined enough by the mother in the other shots. But overall I like them, but I was disapointed in the lighting. DId some work in photoshop to try and fix, it helped, but I think they are trash.

I don't see any that are horribly lit. The two of the little girl standing have shadows but they're not so bad. Which ones are you worried about and why?
btw...this one is my favorite.

Oh. As for the shot I like the most, the child on the steps.

Cheers. I am sure they will be happy with the results

Honestly, I was worried about all of them, but what you said, made me feel a lot better. Thanks so much. Do you have any critique, you could leave me on the comments section of the photos? I really hope that the client likes them, because if so, I am going to get a huge job, and get paid great money, that is why these were so important to me.

One thing I would watch is the direction you're shooting in when outdoors... shoot with the sun to the left or right you get shadows over the face... shoot with the sun behind you you rin the risk of blowing highlights on your subject... and with the sun behind your subject they lie completly in shadow... for outdoor stuff a reflector is a real God send to help even out the lighting.

over all you whole set if pretty good... might also take some more time on the facial expressions to make sure they look natural to the person...

there's my .02

I think a reflector would work wonders for you, then you would be less at the mercy of the sunlight and could bring in maybe a warmer tone on the face.

Overall I like the pictures, lighting is rather flat and the pictures lack pop but I think you did damned good.

I agree, I really need a reflector. I put together some tinfoil on a piece of cardboard, but I don't ahve an assistant to hold it up for me, so there lies the problem. I totally agree with you though, it would really make the photos so much better.

Proper reflectors are fairly cheap at most camera stores... and you can get stands for them as well so if you don't have someone to hold it you're not up the creek...

Aye, I got my 43 inch 5 in 1 reflector thing for a massive £12 incl shipping from ebay. Works damned good too. It folds up to about 15" or so so it's quite portable. I find I can prop it agianst a tree or a wall or against my camera bag or if you're doing closeups, ask the subject to hold it themself- gives a whole new interaction to the process... and not in the whole bit cheap. Honest.
