I recently purchased refurbished from Adorama Camera. Today while I was in the desert and it was quiet, I noticed a woorring sound like something was running while I was partially depressing the shutter button to auto focus. The auto focus works perfectly and the noise came after focusing but doesn̢۪t quit until after I release the button. This never happened with the 70-200 F/4 L, so am I right in assuming something is wrong?

If you were handheld it was probably your IS.

Turn your IS off and then hold the camera, turn it on and try again. Should feel/hear the difference.

it may 'clunk' at times too - normal noises.

You'd think Canon would put this in the manual. I also thought I had problems with the clunking until I researched it.
