I'm looking for help and ideas here folk.

I followed a link off the site the other day to youtube, and to my surprise I found that the video clip wouldn't play. It cam up with an error message saying that either I had Java 'not enabled' or I needed the latest version of flash.

I went to the Adobe site, downloaded Flash 9 and although it went through the motions it wouldn't show the Flash movie at the end to confirm a successful download.

I have now spent a couple of days on this, including loading uninstallers and re-installers to my desktop, a zillion reboots, and am now in a position where IE7 will work fine with Flash if I run it in Admin mode, Firefox will work fine with Flash, but my standard IE7 still refuses to tackle any videos or flash type applications.

This is on a Sony Vaio laptop running Vista home premium - any ideas ?

Thanks

I doubt Sony put 64-Bit Vista on there... but is it 32 or 64bit Vista? On 64bit Vista there are two flavors of IE. I had issues getting the flash to work on the 64Bit version of IE a couple years ago.

it's 32bit Vista - it did work until recently and has suddenly stopped.

I don't know if it's clashing with something, or a setting has changed ?

Seems odd it works if I go in as Admin though.

Have you tried UNinstalling Flash and re-installing?

yep - I downloaded the manual uninstall and re-install programs from Adobe.

Went through the sequence.

Even tried multipe uninstalls just in case it didn't come out cleanly
