How do you sort your offline images? are there any decent apps that can sort your collections? something like dp use for their albums would be good.

I started sorting mine by the days I shot them and once that grew to big I started breaking it down into subjects i.e. sunsets, sunrise, moon, street racing, dpchallenge entries ETC. I also find it makes it easier to do a cd backup and individual folders this way. |

this weekend I bought Photoshop Album 2.0 (actually bundled with Photoshop Elements 2.0 because it was a very interesting offer and they integrate pretty smoothly).
However, while Photoshop Elements is just another editing software, Photoshop Album is just SENSATIONAL.
It does all you want and much more and the way it does it is really original and very very good.
I can understand why the software got a number of US patents and more are still pending.
This software is really great. |

Thanks Glimpses, I just downloaded the starter edition and first impression is that I like it. Just what I wanted, the ability to 'tag' a picture with many categories - this should keep me busy for a while :)
General, thats what I do but quite often a shot will fall into more than one subject category, then I get lost.

With over 3000 pictures covering 4+ years, what I ended up deciding was the best by to organize photos was to physically organize them by the datetime they were shot at. I came to this conclusion because this was something that could be done automatically because the date/time of the picture is in the exif data. And then I use a database and a web based application I wrote to keep track of things like the title, description, rotation, etc. The big plus i get out of a web based system (even if it is only on my local netowrk) is that my wife can get to the photos without messing with my computer. |

i found for me I just sort them by date taken. With over 40,000 pictures its hard to put them in categories like sun sets and so on.
Heck I have 9,000 photos on my laptop alone than need to be placed with the rest on the big PC

So you can add multiple tags for 1 pic. |

I use a program I downloaded a program called Photo Album 3 off of download.com.
You can also use it to tag pictures, and it has a web based photo album you can use through it (but I've never tried that part).

Yup, so if you take a pic of a bug, cat, candle and flower in the same shot you can 'tag' it in all the categories :) actually I've only added 2 tags to a pic but I guess you can add more. I thought I could use my current directory structure of holidays, people, fish etc and just add more tags (and one for disposal).
