Since the Ford Copyright thread has gotten a bit off-target, I figured we could continue this debate over here.

I used "Other" in the subject of this thread because some Japanese cars are actually assembled in the U.S.

If by "other" you mean CMC... I stand by my statement in that thread. A lot of Americans are gonna get hosed by another "Yugo" fad.

Buy a $6,000 future beer can if you want.

My Ford will squash all those cute little fuel savers. Even when gas hits $20 per gallon I will still choose to drive my Big Ass Truck! I will also volunteer my truck to turn those CMC's into beer cans.

:-D

Not necessarily only CMC, but any non-US-headquartered automobile manufacturer. (e.g. Honda, Toyota, Rolls-Royce, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Ferrari, Lexus, Infiniti, Bentley, etc.)

All quality vehicles. There is no debate. For the ones that are manufactured in the US. That's just economics. It's a lot cheaper to manufacture a vehicle in the same general location you plan to sell it.

The big three lost me in the 80's and 90's with horrible quality. I came back to them and had a 2001 Ford Expedition for awhile. After needing a new transmission before 40K miles I swore I would not go back.

Firm and proud Toyota owner now:
1986 4x4 PU 150K miles with only a timing belt replacement.
1993 4 runner 4x4 160K miles, no repairs but the A/C leaked.
1995 4 runner 4x4 190K miles, only repair was a $250 AC repair
(note all three were manual tranny and never even needed a new clutch!)
2004 Tacoma 50K miles nothing yet.

Remember reading something awhile back that said if you wanted to "buy American" the Honda Civic (or one of that ilk) had the most parts and assembly conducted in the U.S. of any car in the market. A lot of the "U.S." car parts, frames and such are produced outside of the country and only assembled here. Some are even assembled out of country.

Wow, you really got hung up with my CMC car. LOL
You must have bought a Yugo once upon a time. If
you don't think cars will be made in China and sold
here, you're fooling yourself. The only unknown is
the price range. It might be lower than you think.
I suspect that in less than 20 years NO mass produced
automobiles will be made in the USA, unless owned by
a foreign entity. Oh, BTW the car I envision won't
be a beer can. It'll be carbon fiber.

I do/did know quite a few people that did fall for the Yugo fad. Was a horrible little car and people got stuck with them. Ofcourse the little Geo Metro and Ford Festivas weren't much better.

I know if China does start marketing a CMC in the US, consumers would trip all over themselves to make the same mistake, further contributing to landfill pile ups.

A Red White & Blue Punch in the Face

At least that's what they are calling it...click on the link in the lower left for a peek at the '09 CTS-V...

If there was/is a horsepower race among luxury'ish sedan manufacturers, I'd say this ups the ante just a lil' bit.
