Our camera club did a portrait session today, bringing in 5 people to photograph. Here's a few samples of 2 of those people.

Refracted these are really nice. I like the black and white tones.. very complimentary to her skin. Your focus and light is super good also. How was the lighting placed?

thanks!

these are all natural lighting. There were 2 windows, one on each side. Made for pretty great light, but the windows were a bit far, so shutter speeds weren't the best (maybe around 1/30s)

Hey Andre. I'm no portrait photog, but I like what you've done.

I'm not sure I'm keen on the background of the male shot. Seems a bit too detailed, which draws your attention?

The lighting on the female shots looks great to me. Good detail in the hair. Oh, I've just noticed it's the same background.. I guess it's less noticable because the model fills the frame more. I think I would have been tempted to try the shots with the model's hair behind the ears?

Overall, good work, Andre.

The woman is profile is really nice. I like the overall lighting and particularly the highlights on her lower lip and in the eyes. I think you could improve the tones a bit, though, the blacks look dark gray on my monitor.

The second portrait of the woamn is nice, but not as striking to me as the profile version.

The man's portrait seems to be dominated by his clothes, which I don't thunk should be the focus. The grizzled beard stubble and cowboy attire looks good - I especially like the details of the coat on his shoulders, but I think the coat and hat and up dominating the image at the expense of his face. It might be interesting to try this with a landscape crop, keeping some of the interest from the coat at the shoulder but croppin in more on the face and positioning it off to the right in the frame.

nice work!

Nice, clear portraits Andre. The first two B&W̢۪s especially. They have a clean look about them that is very appealing. Good work.

thanks everyone..

Some of the conditions i ddn't have much control over.. like the background. The person organizing the day or portraits set that up. Tried the best i could with what i had :)

Here's the color version of one of the images to see the comparison..
