Even though my entry did poorly (Hey I liked it or I wouldn't have entered it) this is still my favorite challenge since I joined! It also has set a personal record for most favorites from one challenge! Kudos to all who entered a shot!

Edited to add: Oh and I thought I had a full week to vote/comment so my apologies to those who didn't get a vote/comment from yours truly!

I also thought it was a great challenge. Lots of really good pics. Commenters did not like it much..and I had some very nice comments...go figure.... but it ended up doing well.
Great contest idea...and lots of fun.

However, I did really well for me...at 74 percent. Go figure....

Ya did better than me! :-P I liked your shot but it didn't give me a feeling of 'Black'... |

Thanks TooCool, my black helmet looked too blue with the reflection, thats why I changed it. It really did not look black. If I get time I will post it...it does not look black at all...even though it is. :)

Color challenges are always great in my opinion.
What I like is to review the thumbnail pages and look at the variations of the color shades by just scrolling relatively fast along the page. |

I have posted the original (cropped and framed identically to the finished one) of my Black photo. Reason being - I am always interested in what they looked like out of the camera on these advanced editing challenges. And since I had to send it anyway, I thought I would post it.
To be frank, if I know I can fix it I take less pains in the set up and posting the original it will keep me honest (I use that term in the colloquial sense, I do not mean to imply I am in danger of cheating on a challenge).
I am SO SO SO glad for basic editing challenges.
Catherine
(Oh, in case anyone is interested I did post a small gallery of my out takes of this shot on my site because I was so fascinated by the topic - so these would be the also rans - another thing that always interest me)
Edited to add URL which I forgot. Ahem:

I certainly took a backward step this time.I thought portraying a Polo mint " the mint with the hole " showing it's centre as black was quite humerous.Obviously not..
ah well I live and learn.

Peecee, I think one of the main problems in your case were the Americans, who don't call Polo's by their real name. They call them Lifesavers I think... weird. Also, I think a little adjusting in post-processing could help the photo look a little less 'snap-shotty'. I'm not saying it is a snapshot, but to me it just looks unfinished. I just made a few little adjustments in PS and came out with this, which I think is a bit of an improvement.
Adjusted Brightness/Contrast, shrunk it a bit so it could be sharper, and added a border.

LOL! Probably because they are LifeSaver's brand, and actually say LifeSaver on them instead of Polo. Also, the visual is the same thing as a round "lifesaver" raft to pull people out of the water if in trouble. |

I didn't realise they were called that Karen, and Ben, I agree totally with what you say about the size and wished after the voting started I had submitted a smaller sharper image which I had thought was too shadowy, does this make any sense,
Thanks,
Paul. |
