This should put you completely back to Factory defaults.

What does factory defaults look like? I still have all 4 lights on the ports and the internet light on, even though nothing is plugged in. Same as before... should I try rewiring everything and starting over again? |
Honestly that sounds bad... like it has been bricked (firmware flash gone bad)
As for the power light is it blinking or on solid?
with nothing plugged in the lights should go out once the router has done a couple cycles... (less than a minute).
As for the ISP being cable; just means we don't have to setup PPPoE. Your config should be as out of the box as it gets.
Update:
It don't sound good for the home team... There are many threads in the Linksys Forum about LAN lights going solid on for the WRT54G for no apparent reason. Linksys responses range from failed product to firmware needs to be flashed.
One guy said he fixed it (and I remember I had a goofy thing with mine, I think I had WRT54G v4) by (with only power plugged in) by pressing and holding the little Cisco Bridge button (yup it looks like a light but is the Wireless easy connect button) for a couple seconds releasing it, unplugging and plugging it back it. I actually hung my router fussing with that easy connect gimmick one time.

THe lights are solid green and been plugged in for a few minutes now. I think the router is toast. Everything I have tried seems to look exactly the same.
RonB, thanks for that suggestion but I may pass on that idea since I don't think the router is functional.
I also wasn't sure about this
2) now, disconnect the PC from the cable modem and connect it instead to your router. But do NOT connect the router to the cable modem.
Did you mean connnect an ethernet cable from the computer to a port, or the internet slot?
Either one shows it can't be displayed. :/
Have a feeling I have killed two routers now. :) |

Are you in your new place and did you bring the cable modem with you?
Have you ever been able to go into the router config through a browser at //192.168.0.1/?

I updated the post below but a couple posts came in.

Andy, where would one find some of these open source firmware updates?

What steps would be needed to install a WRT54G moved from a previous home to a new home with existing Time-Warner (Comcast) internet service that works with an XP laptop now? The WRT54G comes with my father-in-law who will be spending some time with us and would like to continue using his Vista laptop while here. I believe he has been running the router through his desktop (Vista) at his previous home. Thanks for the help. |

If that is a one time only then fine but otherwise install an addon called foxmarks.... It saves the bookmarks on a server and can sync with several machines so you don't have various bookmarks on several machines (any can add and they will cascade to the other :-) |
