I went with my parents on an amazing day trip to see the final resting place of 'Beautiful Betsy' at Kroombit Tops near my hometown of Monto, Queensland, Australia. She went missing in 1945 and was only found by a park ranger in 1994. American army investigated and removed skeletal remains, dogtags and personal items, the rest remains untouched. The force of the crash left only the tail section and the wings, the rest of the plane is scattered as small bits of metal. The impact was so strong that all 4 engines ended up over 100mts from the initial impact site. The experience was extremely interesting and at the same time very sad. The roads were 4WD only, these were not breathtaking but rather breath holding
And we got seriously bogged - took us an hour to get out - I was driving (not when we got bogged but I drove us out) and my dad had to jack up the back wheels and put logs under the wheels etc.
The roads were so bad that the whole trip of 320kms (including getting bogged) took us from 7.15am till 6pm.

We often underestimate the power of images to bring back history to a current perspective (the engine photo for me).

| Yep I found the oxygen tanks quite confronting, they used these to breathe and sustian life while they were flying. Now they are lying scattered around. |
